Este vestido lleva el nombre de Soong Mei-ling, figura política china que fue Primera Dama de la República de China y esposa del Generalísimo y Presidente Chiang Kai-shek. Participó activamente en la vida cívica de su país y ocupó numerosos cargos honorarios y activos, entre ellos la presidencia de la Universidad Católica Fu Jen.
